Consent Atlas

What you agreed to without reading it

The crawler reads public privacy policies and terms, turns source clauses into a consumer terms receipt, and reports the most alarming dark patterns with quotes — through the BFF, not from the browser client.

Evidence-backed dark-pattern inventory

Dark patterns seen in this corpus

These are dark patterns: design, consent, privacy, or contract tactics that steer people into choices they likely would not make with clear, balanced information. Consent Atlas has 32 implemented detectors, but this view only renders detector types with evidence in the loaded corpus snapshot.

In this inventory, a detector appears only when a saved receipt contains that pattern ID. Unobserved detector types stay out until the corpus produces source-backed evidence for them.

How to read a finding

Each card names the giveup, shows the source document, quotes the clause, explains why it matters when available, and suggests a practical mitigation. A high score means the clause combines high sensitivity, broad scope, hard-to-reverse effects, limited remedies, or low user control.

Score drivers

  • Surprise: would a reasonable user expect this from a normal click?
  • Sensitivity: does it involve intimate, biometric, location, children’s, financial, or identity-linked data?
  • Scope: does data move across partners, services, devices, accounts, or advertising systems?
  • Irreversibility: can the user realistically undo it later?
  • Remedy impact: does it reduce rights, refunds, court access, or bargaining power?
  • Actionability: can the user avoid, opt out, limit, export, or delete the exposure?

Run a corpus crawl

Live mode is the real product path: the BFF opens a browser, discovers public legal documents, tries known overrides and common policy URLs, then writes JSON records under the atlas output folder. Dry-run is fixture-only.

Extension contract

Pulse can call this same BFF with the current tab URL. The extension sends only the hostname; the server fetches public legal documents and returns a pollable job.
